This week I will be blogging from the United States Fencing Coaches Annual Coaches Conference, and from my training session with Shihan Dana Abbott to qualify as a Chanbara instructor. The USFCA conference will be interesting because of the presentations and because I have three proposals to be considered by the USFCA's Executive Committee:
... a proposal from the Club Committee to create a national skills development program, similar to the skills program the Salle runs. This would provide fencers and coaches a roadmap for technical and tactical development.
... a proposal developed for the Certification and Accreditation Board based on a suggestion made by Paul Sise (a former officer of the USFCA) that the Board develop an endorsement program for coaches who teach classical and historical fencing.
... a proposal developed in response to a tasking from Jerry Benson, a former Certification Board chair and a Vice President of the United States Fencing Association, to develop a national training program for professional coaches.
It will be interesting to see which, if any, of these are adopted.
